In addition to being the founder of Lucid Entertainment, he has diversified his career into many other industries, including real estate, gambling, and restaurant and nightclub operations. A former army officer, Asher entered the army at the age of 19 to serve in the Signal Corps. After four years, he left and went back to New York, where he met his future wife, Joyce Bulifant. It was during this time that he developed an interest in show business.
Later, Asher would work at Universal Studios, where he became an assistant cameraman. While he was there, he wrote several short films, and eventually he began directing his own shows. His first TV directorial credit came in 1952. When he was nineteen, he had a role in I Love Lucy. Afterward, he worked as a film editor and specialized in horror movies. He later rewrote the scripts for Sol Saks, the producer of Bewitched.
While working as a television director, Asher also created several television series, including Beach Blanket Bingo, and Beach Party. These shows starred Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello. They also featured scantily-clad surfers.
Besides being a highly successful entrepreneur, Bill Asher is also the head honcho of Guitar Traditions, a Los Angeles-based guitar store. In addition to his business interests, he has been actively involved in the nonprofit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles for more than two decades. Currently, he lives in Orange County, California with his family.
